Strengthening Resources for All Families to Prevent Child Abuse & Neglect Across Cape Cod and the Islands
Cape Cod Neighborhood Support Coalition
Strong Families Need Strong Support
Mission
The mission of the Cape Cod Neighborhood Support Coalition (CCNSC) is to strengthen families and the resources that support them in order to help prevent child abuse and neglect in our region.
We strive to achieve this mission by promoting effective community-based family support initiatives, and by participating in coordination and collaboration among family support providers, practitioners, and policy-makers.
Background
In response to the federal Family Preservation and Support Act, the Massachusetts Department of Social Services (DSS), now known as Massachusetts Departments of Children and Families (DCF), began the regional “Community Connections” initiative in 1993.
CCNSC started its work strengthening families and resources in East Falmouth and Mashpee, then the entire Upper Cape, and ultimately across the Cape and Islands.
Today, 22 Community Connections coalitions across the state, including the CCNSC, share a mission to prevent child abuse and neglect. But we each work independently and locally in response to our individual community’s needs, wants, strengths, and constraints. We are federally funded but community-based.
